If you are looking for a treadmill which will be used in a home gym and primarily for walking and jogging, then Proform is your best bet. Proform is the most popular selling brand of treadmill amongst home users due to their low prices and attractive features.
If you are a serious runner however, do not bother looking at the Proform range as there is little for you here. Yes, Proform does offer some more expensive treadmills which could be used by runners, but you are better off looking at other brands in the same price bracket as this isn’t really their forte.
Proform are part of ICON fitness, a company which also encompasses the NordicTrack, Weider, HealthRider and Reebok treadmill brands amongst others and is the largest producer of health and fitness equipment in the world. Proform were the first to introduce folding deck treadmills to the market with their innovative SpaceSaver fold-away treadmill machines and have continued to innovate with the home consumer firmly in mind ever since.
Proform specialises in mid priced and low cost treadmills for walking and jogging in the comfort of your own home. They are popular amongst home users because they work hard to keep the pricing low whilst still offering a feature packed and reliable treadmill despite the cheap price. This means you will find cheap proform treadmills in the entry level range starting at around £400 and rising up to under £1500 for their more expensive models.
On a like for like basis, you tend to get more for your money with a Proform treadmill which is one of the things which makes them so popular. Remember however, you always get what you pay for, so don’t expect a health club quality treadmill when you buy a Proform treadmill for under £500. That’s like comparing apples to oranges and it’s not a fair representation. Compare apples to apples however, by looking at other cardio machines in the same price bracket, and you will see the Proform brand compares favorably across the board.
Proform provides good entry level treadmills ideal for the general rigors of a home workout but not generally ideal for runners who will require a more powerful motor and a bigger, more rugged machine. The Proform range is a large, one possibly the largest on the market, with numerous features like adjustable deck cushioning technology, personal trainer and other innovations which are highly appealing at this price level. It can be hard to choose between the various Proform treadmills out there simply because there are so many to pick between but it’s always nice to be able to narrow the feature set down to exactly what you are looking for.
Whichever you choose, you will be buying into the most popular brand of treadmill available today. They’re not without their detractors of course, with past complaints ranging for the quality of the components to the length of the warranty provided, both of which Proform has taken strides to address in recent years. Big upgrades have taken place ‘under the hood’ so to speak, which have greatly improved what was already a popular brand and newer reviews are significantly skewed towards the positive amongst new owners.
Most Proform treadmills now come with industry leading motor warranty for example, a 25 year warranty on a £400 treadmill is insane when you consider others are giving you one or two years in the same price range. As you get to their more pricey models this becomes a lifetime warranty which is unbeatable.
Proform are not for everyone, but in the entry level to mid-level price range, they are a highly competitive option.
